Dubai is fast becoming a number one spa destination with the added appeal of fabulous weather, superb beaches and opulent shopping malls. Visitors are spoilt for choice with the variety of spas, their unique themes, style and concept treatments. Influences are drawn from the East and West and this international feel is evident with spa themes ranging from Egyptian and Thai to contemporary. Treatments are equally global with specialists practicing techniques from Bali, Sweden, Thailand, China and beyond. Dubai’s spa backdrops include the beach, city, desert and shopping malls.
Dubai’s excellence in terms of service, style and luxury are echoed in its spa offering with modern and purpose-built facilities, built with an abundance of space to offer the perfect spa environment. Staff are always professional and high standards of customer service are the norm. Many spa staff are recruited from the Far East, so far eastern treatments are both authentic and commonplace.
Most spas offer well-known international brands such as La Prairie, Elemis and ESPA, while others focus on traditional Arabian ingredients. The popular treatment from the region, Rasul, a detoxifying mud treatment which purifies and relaxes the body as it is cleansed, has a number of respected specialists operating in Dubai. Treatments also include massage, from Balinese and stone massage, hydrotherapy, Moroccan Hammam and body wraps, to Ayurvedic, thalassotherapy Ionthermie and phytotherapy.
Due to the Muslim influence within the region, many spas offer designated areas for men and women, ensuring privacy and discretion at all times. Indeed men now constitute 25 per cent of spa visitors in the Emirate and this has heralded a new trend of men-only spas, for example GH with its popular men’s spa, 1847.
